VARÐA

This is a piece of work deeply inspired by the landscape of Iceland, as well as the people that I met and the experience I had with them during my stay in Bær Art Centre.

Varða is an Icelandic word meaning pile of stones. It is a guard for travellers, to show them directions, to keep them safe, and a wish of luck.

Where to go, where to return,

Washed up ashore, landed stranger.

Waves against the cliffs,
Bouncing, polished.
Here is the land, ever changing.

Where is home, where is my love,

Flowers, berries, rocks.
There is rain, there is rainbow,

There is wind, there is hope,
There is promise, that I will return.
